Healthcare Assistant Teodor Ghiban from Central London Community NHS Trust has won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for his patients.
Colleague and Consultant Nurse Lesley Mills explains why Teodor is such a worthy winner,
“Teodor decided in order to help his team and patients he would volunteer to do further training to be able to administer insulin to help support the pressures on his team and workforce. This means his patients get to have their treatment and medications in a more timely manner, they don’t need to wait for a qualified nurse to arrive before they can have their breakfast or evening meals. He also has been trained to identify and escalate any concerns to the RN and has built up relationships with a case load of patients. He has gone on to share his story in his own time on national webinars and now connects with organisations across the country to influence change in other organisations . He is now considering further education and possible nursing training which is also influencing other HCAs too.”
