Three Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists at Kettering General Hospital have won a Cavell Star Award for going above and beyond for their patients. Colleague and Lung Cancer Lead Consultant George Tsaknis explains why the team are worthy winners,
“Despite the widely known challenges of Cancer Services over the past 2 years with COVID-19 hitting our workload and lives very hard, the team’s compassion, dedication, initiative, grit and determination, has directly positively impacted patient experience and outcomes, in a geographical area where lung cancer outcomes have been a particular challenge over the past decade.
“They managed to keep contact with nearly 100% of the patients and provided full support throughout their patient journey and also continued to run their Nurse-led Clinics, qualified in prescribing and independent imaging investigation requesting, as well as continuing to support our busy rapid-access physician-led ultrasound-guided biopsy service daily, resulting in faster diagnoses.
“Our overall exceptional performance as a Lung Cancer Service, which has been commended by NHSE/GIRFT, would not be possible without our fantastic and extremely capable Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists.
“Thank you Natalie, Laura and Melissa. The Trust owes you a great deal, and the patients are consistently receiving excellent care because of your hard work.”
